Book Review: Crave by Melissa Darnell

Savannah Colbert has never known why she's so hated by the kids of the Clann. Nor can she deny her instinct to get close to Clann golden boy Tristan Coleman. Especially when she recovers from a strange illness and the attraction becomes nearly irresistible. It's as if he's a magnet, pulling her gaze, her thoughts, even her dreams. Her family has warned her to have nothing to do with him, or any members of the Clann. But when Tristan is suddenly everywhere she goes, Savannah fears she's destined to fail.
For years, Tristan has been forbidden to even speak to Savannah Colbert. Then Savannah disappears from school for a week and comes back…different, and suddenly he can't stay away. Boys seem intoxicated just from looking at her. His own family becomes stricter than ever. And Tristan has to fight his own urge to protect her, to be near her no matter the consequences….

Crave, by Melissa Darnell, is one of those books that I really wanted to love, and hoped it would be better than it actually was.  It had an interesting premise, an almost Romeo and Juliet type tale, as Savannah's family tells her to have nothing to do with anyone in the Clann, and Tristan's family and the Clann tell him to have nothing to do with Savannah.  But they were friends as children and Savannah doesn't understand why that had to stop; she's the only one who doesn't know the reason.

As most love stories go, the two can't keep apart.  Savannah learns who/what she is and unable to handle it alone, she allows Tristan in.  Will true love prevail, or will it end in tragedy?  You'll have to read it yourself to find out!

What I will say is there seemed to be no shock on Savannah's part upon learning her true heritage.  I expected some anger, denial, frustration, and fear, but found very little there.  However, she was a strong character despite her young age, and easy to like.

It took a lot of pages to get this story as far as it went.  I thought it could have gone farther.  I know this is just the first book in a series, but I felt the story could have been tightened up a little and this book could have been given some more action.

Crave is a solid paranormal fantasy that young adults will enjoy.  The series has limitless possibilities!

I give this book 3 Bookworms.
