Book Review: Treasure Me by Christine Nolfi

Petty thief Birdie Kaminsky has arrived in Liberty, Ohio to steal a treasure hidden since the Civil War. She’s in possession of a charming clue passed down in her family for generations: Liberty safeguards the cherished heart.

The beautiful thief wants to go straight. She secretly admires the clue’s author, freedwoman Justice Postell, who rose above the horrors of slavery to build a new life in Ohio. According to family lore, Justice left South Carolina at the dawn of the Civil War. Heavy with child, she carried untold riches on her journey north. As Birdie searches for the treasure, she begins to believe a questionable part of the story: a tale of love between Justice and Lucas Postell, the French plantation owner who was Birdie’s ancestor.

Treasure Me is a true treasure of a novel!  The storyline is fairly unique; there's mystery, a little history, and some good old-fashioned romance.  A little something for everyone!

The characters are absolutely brilliant.  They come to life off the page.  Birdie is a sharp-tongued thief who  softens her edges as she learns to trust her new friends.  Hugh is a womanizing, story-hungry reporter who learns that the story isn't always the most important thing to win.  The rest of the characters are so enjoyable to get to know; each with their own personality quirks.

Christine Nolfi, the author, has a definitively smooth writing style that makes the novel easy to read.  The sentences just flow off the page as you sit back and take them all in.  The people of Liberty, Ohio will engage and delight you!  If we're lucky, Christine will write another book set in Liberty.

  1. Maria, many thanks for hosting Treasure Me! If not for dedicated book reviewers like you, few debut novels would reach the reading public.
