Book Review: Dead Until Dark (Sookie Stackhouse #1) by Charlaine Harris

Sookie Stackhouse is just a small-time cocktail waitress in small-town Louisiana. Until the vampire of her dreams walks into her life-and one of her coworkers checks out....

Maybe having a vampire for a boyfriend isn't such a bright idea.

I know, I'm probably one of the last people to read this book, and I'm woefully behind on the series.  I've even already watched the first couple seasons of True Blood.  Still, I wanted to read the series.  I think Charlaine Harris has come up with a unique storyline where vampires have come out to join society.  So vampires become the minority in society that are disliked just because they are vampires (instead of the color of their skin).

Sookie meets Bill and they fall in love, and all heck breaks loose.  Her friends and family aren't happy about it, they distrust Bill.  Other vampires don't understand and think Sookie is just a "pet" for Bill.  The murders that are being committed are blamed on the vampires.  It's all chaotic and keeps pulling Sookie and Bill apart.  But Bill is her first love, and her "power" doesn't work on him - his glamour doesn't work on her.

Harris has done a great job coming up with an interesting storyline and coming up with true to life characters.  Even the vampires!  It's a very enjoyable book to read, so if you're like me and have been behind, get started, you'll enjoy it!

I give this book 4 Bookworms.
